Anytime I'm in the car with the kids for longer than an hour, I need to have a plan. And if you're heading out to see family or friends this Thanksgiving, you should too. I've linked some of our go-to items for keeping kids busy while road tripping, year round!
The seat back organizers are great for keeping stuff off the floor of the back seat. Those huge trays that sit on laps are a lawsuit waiting to happen. If you want to know why, please reach out, but I'm not going to put anyone on blast here. Stick to the seat back organizers that keep everything securely in place.
Wearing these headphones they can watch whichever approved movie or show they want, without bothering everyone else in the car. Win - Win.
We have monogrammed versions of the large zip-top boat and tote (get the long handles cause you might need to carry more than one!) for each of our kids. It makes individual packing super easy and it's something they can use as they get older, These bags last forever.
This cup holder travel tray thing seems super useful for drinks and snacks without a mess. I've ordered one and will keep you posted after our next trip. The link actually takes you to the travel tray store which shows you all the colors available, and there are a ton!
These busy boards do exactly what you want them to do. Keep your kids busy. There's a bunch of different activities for them to choose from. There are color and shape pages, a white board (for older kids), different kinds of snaps / closures, and alphabet pages. They may be a little more expensive than the other ones, but they have a lot more pages of interaction.
My kids love Bluey, but there are so many different mess free coloring books available, from princesses, to paw patrol and cocomelon to a wide variety of Disney movie characters. Plus, if they draw on their car seat or the door, there's no trace of it.
If your kids are a little older, facing forward and can read, or at least be able to identify specific pictures, then the 50 states book is also a great find! It has stickers of license plates from each state, and they can put it on the included map. Plus, they can take it along for the next road trip if they didn't fill up their map last time.
I keep these sunshades on my back windows year-round, my kids can still see out, kinda, but it stops a lot of those harmful rays from baking them. Just a reminder, to remove them if you want to roll the windows down! I've made that mistake before. Womp
The Amazon Fire 7 has a 10-hour battery life, two different digital storage capacities and comes in 3 different colors (look how thick that cover is! Your kids can chuck these around and they won't break.).
